I tried using a french curve, but they never matched up exactly. Then I tried using an elliptical template sheet, but if you moved it without waiting for a while for each line the template would smudge the ink. The most practical way would end up being to have to do it by hand, but by this point it was hard to see the under drawing. Luckily there was a light box in the class I was able to use. The I drew in the curved lines by hand. Each course you had to measure and then give measurements for a cut brick to fill the changing gap on the right side. Our instructor told us that this is what restoration work is all about, and that things are constantly changing depending on the condition of the building. We were using Carotex, which you can reuse once it is wet. Some of the others in class built corners last week and are now building with block. Me and 3 other classmates each have a corner on a projected square that is to rise 6 courses. We learn to "hog out" on the bottom course, or to add more mortar then usual to make up for the uneven surface where we are sent to build. Building corners especially the first course accuracy is very important, because any mistake you make will follow you up the wall. The bricks on the bottom four courses were a different type so we had to learn about spacing issues. Those bricks are also white from the Carotex washing off in a thunderstorm. All in all I was happy how it turned out, It was the first wall I have ever built.
